Here is a simple pattern file:
====================
# Pattern to reject passwords which do not comply to
# - at least 1 uppercase letter
# - at least 1 lowercase letter
# - at least one number
# - at least one special character
# and a few extra things to show the reject mode
# Reject is the default mode, ignore case is the default
#[reject]
#[icase]
# If the password starts with "foo" (case insensitive) it is rejected.
/foo.*/
[case]
# If the password starts with "bar" (case sensitive) it is rejected.
/bar.*/
# Switch to accept mode: Only if all patterns up to the next "accept"
# or "reject" tag or EOF match, the password is accepted. Otherwise
# the password is rejected.
[accept]
/[A-Z]+/
/[a-z]+/
/[0-9]+/
/[^A-Za-z0-9]+/

The tool has no more configure option to build it and thus the man
page does not make sense. We keep the actual file for reference,
though.

* doc/examples/vsnfd.prf: Rename to VS-NfD.prf.
* doc/examples/Automatic.prf: New.
* doc/Makefile.am (examples): Adjust.
* build-aux/speedo/w32/inst.nsi: Install gpg-check-pattern.exe and 3
example files.
* build-aux/speedo/w32/wixlib.wxs: Add new files.
--
Note that we renamed the existing example profile so that kleopatra
shows a nicer name. In fact the gpg4win installer just copies of
theses file but it is better to maintain them here.
gpg-check-pattern.exe can no be installed because we meanwhile have a
regex lib which works also on Windows.

This is not intended to apply to master, but 2.2 branch only. When
new libgpg-error is required, installation of yat2m can be assumed.

Note that flags inside of brackets are allowed after the option name.
The only defined flag for now is "[default]". In case the value
starts with a bracket, it is possible to insert "[]" as a nop-flag.

Many thanks to Emanuel Schütze for helping with the redesign of the
module overview. The original file has been used by mere for years in
talks but was never a proper part of GnuPG.
The EPS files have been removed due to their size. Thus to build the
"dvi" target the convert tool is required.

* doc/Makefile.am: quit making the manpage
* tools/Makefile.am: quit distributing the script
* doc/howto-create-a-server-cert.texi: overhaul documentation to use
gpgsm --gen-key and tweak explanations
--
The commit deprecating gpgsm-gencert.sh
(81972ca7d53ff1996e0086702a09d4405bdc2a7e) dates back exactly 6 years.
https://codesearch.debian.net/results/gpgsm-gencert.sh
suggests that in all of debian it is only referenced in documentation
(for poldi and scute) and example files (libept), and isn't actually
used directly anywhere.
Furthermore, trying to use gpgsm-gencert.sh to make a simple webserver
certificate-signing request failed for me, following the examples in
doc/howto-create-a-server-cert.texi exactly.
It's time we ripped off this band-aid :)
